The Marlin 60 and the Ruger 10/22 are probably the only two American .22 semiautos to consider if you are buying either your first or last semiauto .22 rifle. They occupy two slightly different niches, however. The tube-fed Marlin is the best choice for all-around use, plinking and hunting, outstanding accuracy right out of the box and best value/price performance. The gun is slim, attractive, simple and solidly built, and handles wonderfully, still a top-notch design 50 years after it was introduced. It is not the choice for accurizing or accessorizing, however. That choice goes to the Ruger, which has a universe of accessories and a modular design which allows users to upgrade their own barrels, stocks and triggers easily. It also features the unique and ingenious rotary magazine which allows it to stay completely inside the stock. The Ruger is quite a bit more expensive, however. As a side note, even with the stock trigger, my Marlin 60''s will out-shoot my accurized Rugers any day of the week. Either is a good choice but when I go out into the woods the Marlin goes with me.

i had a marlin 60 when i was a teen. it cost $99 about 10 years ago. i sold it and bought a ruger 10/22 which i like there are so many after market parts for it i put a new stock and bull barrel on it and have about $600 tied up in it. its great BUT! my ole marlin 60 with its microgroove riffling would out shoot it anyday. i will be gettin a new 1 to keep in the gun safe next to the ruger ASAP!
